Rangers boss Mark Warburton has revealed that Joe Dodoo will miss the Old Firm derby with Celtic on Saturday with an injury.

The striker, who joined Rangers from Leicester City on a four-year deal in the summer, picked up an ankle injury during the Gers’ 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock in a Scottish Premiership game on 27th August.

Dodoo is now expected to be sidelined for up to five weeks and hence the 21-year-old didn’t feature in Rangers' 7-0 rout of Linfield in a friendly at the weekend.

Injured duo Martyn Waghorn and Josh Windass returned to action in the friendly encounter at Windsor Park, with Warburton explaining that apart from Dodoo, he will have a full squad to choose from for the game against Celtic.

“Josh got a good hour and looked very strong, fit and got forward. Likewise, Waggy came on and played high before dropping in to a midfield role for us and that allowed us to look at different people in different positions”, Warburton told Rangers TV.

“It’s great to welcome them back, and touch-wood we will have a full squad to choose from, the only exception being Joe Dodoo, who unfortunately suffered in the Kilmarnock game, and he is facing four or five weeks on the sidelines.

“He is a quick healer by the looks of things though, and fingers-crossed he will come back sooner than expected. All in all, it was a really pleasing weekend for us.”

Dodoo, who is contracted with Rangers until 2020, has thus far made six appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants, scoring twice and providing one assist.
