Niko Kranjcar says Rangers have their sights set on dethroning Celtic at the top of Scottish football.

Rangers are in the Scottish Premiership this season after winning promotion from the Scottish Championship last term and as a result Old Firm games are back on the agenda.

The first arrives this weekend, with Rangers making the journey to Parkhead to contest a Scottish Premiership fixture against their fierce rivals, who they already trail in the league standings.

Kranjcar feels the game will be like any other for the Rangers players, though he believes it will act as a good benchmark for the Gers, as they measure themselves against the team they want to knock off the summit.

"As for us players and the way we're going to go about it, in playing terms it [the derby] shouldn't change a lot", Kranjcar told Rangers TV.

"Only now we're here competing against the champions of Scotland, that is an ambition of ours, to become [the champions], and in becoming that we have to be better than them.

"This is a great test for us as a team to see how far we've come", the Croatian added.

Rangers snapped Kranjcar up from American side New York Cosmos earlier this summer and the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder will want to make a splash in his first Old Firm derby game.
