Leeds United legend Peter Lorimer has explained that he wants to see more of new signing Pontus Jansson to negate the Whites’ defensive errors.

The centre-back, who joined Leeds from Torino on loan in the summer, has thus far made just one appearance for his new employers when he featured in the 1-0 win over Luton Town in an EFL Cup game last month.

Lorimer was impressed with Jansson’s showing at Kenilworth Road as he thinks the Sweden international can plug Leeds’ porous defence.

The Yorkshire giants, who conceded 58 times in the Championship last season, the second highest in the division, have already let in nine goals in five matches this season.

And Lorimer is worried by Leeds’ continued mistakes at the back, but the 69-year-old thinks Jansson can rectify those problems.

“The worrying thing for me is the familiar mistakes at the back”, he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“That was a big problem last season and if we’re being honest, it’s been a problem for many years – the fact that the opposition aren’t often forced to score good goals against us.

“I thought Jansson looked good in the League Cup game at Luton and I’d like to see what he can do.

"He looks big and strong and we need some mettle in there.”

Jansson, who is a product of Malmo’s youth system, has eight senior caps for Sweden to his name.
