Leeds United head coach Garry Monk says that talk of fan favourite Luciano Becchio returning to the club is simply a "rumour".

Becchio won the hearts of the Leeds faithful during his spell at Elland Road from 2008 until 2013 and is currently a free agent.

The Whites missed out on adding a striker to their squad before the summer transfer window slammed shut and as such can only add free agents to their group.

Becchio could fit the bill and he has been linked with what would be an emotional Leeds return, but Monk has indicated there is little of substance in the chatter.

Asked about Becchio in a press conference this afternoon, Monk replied: "There are a lot of facts to talk about and I don't like to talk about rumours.

"It is a pure rumour", the former Swansea City manager added.

However, Monk will not rule out free agent signings and said "the door is never closed if the right player becomes available."

Becchio, who is still just 32 years old, was prolific for Leeds during his spell at the club, before then departing for Norwich City.

He struggled to make an impact at Carrow Road and of late has had spells with Rotherham United and Club Atletico Belgrano in his native Argentina.
