Mauricio Pochettino feels Moussa Sissoko is "fantastic" and is delighted Tottenham Hotspur managed to snap up the France international from Newcastle United.

At the start of transfer deadline day, Spurs were well short of Newcastle's £30m asking price for Sissoko, but the involvement of Everton just hours before the window closed forced the White Hart Lane side's hand and the Magpies' desire was fulfilled.

It has been suggested in some quarters that Sissoko, who could make his Spurs debut at the weekend against Stoke City, has cost the north London side too much to buy – but Pochettino is a big fan.

"Sissoko is a player who can help us a lot. You know how he is because last season he was in Newcastle and in the Euros he was fantastic", the Spurs boss was quoted as saying by beIN Sports.

"He is a player who can bring experience, he is fast and strong and when you play a lot of games you need a lot of competition to maintain your levels", he added.
