New Tottenham Hotspur goalkepeer Pau Lopez has been given a warm welcome at the White Hart Lane club by manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is sure the Spaniard will add further depth between the sticks.

The Lilywhites secured the signature of the Spanish Under-21 international from Espanyol on a season-long loan deal on the final day of the transfer window.

With Hugo Lloris injuring himself in the opening weekend of the season, the Argentine manager felt the need to have a backup and therefore made a late move for the 21-year-old.

Reflecting on the events that transpired before the move was completed, the manager said that he had a good opportunity and cashed in on it. He had explained his intentions to the youngster and finally managed to secure the move.

And now that the move has been finalised, Pochettino hopes that Lopez will prove to be a good backup and will use all his experience to help the team.

“He’s another young player, but with a lot of experience because last season he played a lot of games in La Liga with Espanyol", Pochettino told his club's official website.

"It was a good opportunity to bring him to the club and he’s a player with the possibility to become a very good goalkeeper.

"I explained my intentions for bringing him in, he agreed and we are happy we have three very good goalkeepers."

Pochettino used to manage Lopez's parent club, Espanyol, and took charge from 2009 until 2012.
