Scott Brown has insisted that Celtic need to beat Rangers on Saturday to show why his side have been so successful in recent years.

The Hoops, who have won the Scottish Premiership title for the past five seasons, managed to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in two years earlier this summer.

Celtic have made a great start to their domestic campaign this season too, with the Bhoys winning their opening three league fixtures, in addition to reaching the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup.

And Brown, who admitted that he is excited to feature in the season’s first Old Firm derby, feels his side need to bag the full three points at Celtic Park at the weekend to show that they are the worthy champions.

“Yes definitely [I am excited]”, he told Celtic TV.

“Everyone has been building it up for days. But at the end of the day it’s another game for us.

“We need to go and win it to show how good we are and show why we are in the Champions League and why we have won the league for the past five seasons."

Celtic are atop the league table with nine points from three games, a place and a point ahead of Rangers, who have played a game more.
