Former Leeds United head coach Neil Redfearn believes a change in shape has helped the Whites defence to become more compact over the past couple of weeks.

New signings Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley have formed a formidable partnership for Leeds at the back, and have contributed heavily to their recent run of form.

In Leeds’ four-game winning streak, they have conceded has just one goal, and have looked much more defensively robust and solid than at the start of the new season.

While Redfearn admits that Jansson and Bartley’s partnership at the back has been crucial for Leeds as they have been more decisive with their defending, he also feels Monk’s decision to go with a 4-2-3-1 formational has also made the whole team more defensively compact.

He also feels Leeds have looked a lot more determined side in the last few games, in terms of getting results over the line.

On Jansson and Bartley’s partnership, the former Leeds boss told TV Yorkshire: “Yes, those two and also the fact that they have changed the shape, it has been a big catalyst as well.

“I think the 4-2-3-1 shape suits Leeds United, but I just think there is a real willingness to get results now.

“You can see when it was 1-0, and Ipswich started getting a little bit of joy late on, you could see Leeds determined to get over the line; big Jansson and Bartley pulling people around, and getting their first for the balls in the box.

“It’s a good trait, a good sign to see.”
