Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi admits that it is frustrating to again start from scratch after recovering from an injury.

The Swiss defender struggled with injuries last season, and even suffered a setback during pre-season, but was declared fit to start the current campaign with Leeds.

However, on the opening day of the season tragedy struck again, and he was pulled off during the game at Queens Park Rangers after just 22 minutes with a fresh hamstring problem.

Berardi returned to training early last week, and played 45 minutes of football for Leeds Under-23s on Monday night to regain some of his match sharpness after a lengthy layoff.

The defender has described his struggles over the last few months regarding his injury, and admits that starting from scratch again after recovering from a fresh setback has not been a great experience for him.

Berardi told LUTV: “I had a problem before, during pre-season.

“I did three weeks of rehab, but then again after 20 minutes [at Loftus Road], so it has been bad for me to start again now.

“The last month was very difficult, but now I think I am hundred per cent [fit].”

Leeds head coach Garry Monk is not expecting Berardi to return to the first team fold before the international break next month.
