Kevin Stewart says he is happy with how his Liverpool career is progressing at present, as he feels signing a new deal until 2020 gives him time to establish himself at Anfield.

The 23-year-old, who was snapped up by Liverpool on a free transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2014, made his senior competitive debut for the club in an FA Cup game against Exeter City in January.

Stewart has since clocked up 989 minutes over 16 appearances in all competitions for the Reds, with the youngster starting 10 of those matches and being rewarded with a new contract.

The defensive midfielder, who signed the new deal in February which will keep him at Liverpool until 2020, is yet to start a game for the club in the present campaign.

However, Stewart explained that he is not sweating over not starting more regularly as he still has time to prove himself at the Merseyside club.

“I was happy with that contract [until 2020] because I've got time”, he told LFC TV, when asked whether he believes he can establish himself at Anfield.

“I believe in myself, but it’s a hard task. There are not many Liverpool players who are not top internationals.

“So right now, I’m happy where I am [in terms of game time].

"I try to be better every day, compete with them, work with them."

Stewart previously spent time out on loan at Cheltenham Town, Burton Albion and Swindon Town.
