Chris Wood feels while Leeds United still had quality players in their ranks last season, the summer signings have taken the team to the next level in the current campaign.

A win over Derby County on Friday night took Leeds to third in the league table and there is talk of challenging of automatic promotion, a thought that was dismissed at the start of the season.




Leeds again finished in the bottom half of the league table last season, which led to the departure of Steve Evans and Garry Monk was roped in over the summer as their new manager along with eleven new faces for the squad.

Summer signings such as Pontus Jansson, Kyle Bartley, Luke Ayling, Pablo Hernandez, Hadi Sacko, Eunan O’Kane, Liam Bridcutt and Kemar Roofe have emerged as key performers for the Whites this season.
 


Wood feels Leeds still had quality players in the squad last term, but believes the new boys have completely transformed the Whites into one of the best teams in the Championship.

The Kiwi told BBC Radio Leeds: “We had great quality last year and we have added to that superbly this year.

“The boys that have come in have taken the squad to another level and we are finally working like we are one of the best sides in the league.

“We can take on anybody, we know that.

"We are confident in that sense and we are showing that.”

Monk is eyeing bringing in two more new faces to the Leeds squad in the winter window to further boost their chances of promotion.
