Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson says that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not frighten Reds centre-backs Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren on Sunday.

Lawrenson expects Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to go with Matip and Lovren in the centre of defence for the Reds' trip to Old Trafford to lock horns with Jose Mourinho's men in a Premier League fixture.

Manchester United are on a fine run of form and have won their last nine consecutive matches, with Ibrahimovic hitting his stride and becoming a key man for the Red Devils.

But Lawrenson does not feel the prospect of facing Ibrahimovic will be giving either Matip or Lovren sleepless nights, with the former defender arguing that only genuine pace scares centre-backs.

"He's not going to run past you because he's not got that in his locker", he said on LFC TV.

"But like all good strikers he is able to sniff a goal. There is also the added threat that he is very good in the air

"He wouldn't frighten you.

"I think defenders like Lovren are frightened by real pace, because some players if they get half a yard on you they are gone.

"Zlatan, don't get me wrong, he is an outstanding player, but you can keep him quiet to be honest with you", Lawrenson added.

Liverpool have been criticised for their leaky defence this season and no team in the top six have conceded as many goals as Klopp's men.

However, at the other end Liverpool have scored for fun, netting 48 times in 20 games, a whopping 17 more than Manchester United have managed.
