Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann has told Atletico Madrid that he wants to leave the club in the summer, according to Spanish radio station COPE, citing Antonio Ruiz.

The 26-year-old forward is Manchester United’s top target for the upcoming transfer window and the club have received enough encouragement from the player in recent weeks regarding a switch to Old Trafford.

Griezmann has a release clause of €100m in his contract and despite Atletico Madrid’s belief that no club would match that figure, Manchester United appear prepared to fork out the sum.

The Frenchman was reportedly expected to take a decision on his future only after playing in the international fixtures for France next month, but it seems he has made up his mind.

It has been claimed that Atletico Madrid have been informed by the player that he wants to leave the club in the summer and it could pave the way for him to move to Manchester United.

The Spanish giants have been hopeful that they would be able to convince the player to continue and it remains to be seen whether they plan any more talks with the Frenchman in the coming days as a last ditch effort.

Manchester United have been keeping close tabs on the situation and are becoming increasingly confident that Griezmann will be seen in their colours once pre-season rolls out in July.

It remains to be seen when they plan to trigger the release clause in the Frenchman’s contract to start off the next sequence of events in the saga.
