Striker Eduardo Herrera only needs the Scottish FA to approve his move to Rangers for it to happen, a source close to the player has revealed.

The Pumas hitman is set to move to Ibrox to reunite with former Santos Laguna coach Pedro Caixinha, who took over at Rangers earlier this year.

Caixinha is busy in the transfer market as he attempts to quickly add to his squad ahead of Rangers' early start in the Europa League qualifiers at the end of this month.

He is already set to sign one Mexican, in the shape of midfielder Carlos Pena, and now Herrera will also be playing in Scotland – if the Scottish FA play ball.

A source close to the player told Mexican outlet Mediotiempo that Herrera only needs the permission of the Scottish FA for the move to go through.

As a non-EU player, Herrera must meet specific criteria in order to be handed a work permit.

Puma are happy with the deal on the table, while the agreement also contains sell-on percentages, it is claimed.

Herrera will add to Caixinha's attacking options as the Portuguese tactician aims to put the Gers back on top of the Scottish game.
