Madger Gomes is hoping to make progress at Elland Road after he joined Leeds United from Liverpool on Tuesday.

Joining the Liverpool academy from Villarreal in 2014, the midfielder only made 20 appearances for the Under-23 side before the Reds decided to release him this summer.

Leeds quickly snapped up the young Spaniard on a free transfer and Gomes has signed a three-year contract with the club as he looks to take the next step in his career at Elland Road.

The 20-year-old midfielder is pleased to get a fresh start at Elland Road and is keen to break into the first team at Leeds as soon as possible in order to progress in his football career.

Gomes told the club’s official website: “I’m really excited and happy to start life with Leeds United, I hope to have a good season here.

“Hopefully I will get a chance to progress and make the first team as my dream is to play professionally.”

It remains to be seen whether new Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen drafts Gomes straight into the first team or allows him to first find his feet in Leeds’ Under-23 set-up.

The midfielder has represented Spain at the Under-17 and Under-18 level.
