Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha thinks his side's friendly clash against Benfica next month can help when it comes to participating in Europe next season.

This term the Gers suffered an early exit from the Europa League this season as they slipped out in the first qualifying round after a shock aggregate defeat against Progres Niederkorn.

Caixinha will want his men to do much better next season if they are again in Europe and feels that being invited by Benfica to take part in the Eusebio Cup will hand his charges vital experience which can then benefit the side.

The Portuguese said in a press conference: "We are very pleased to be there, it's a great cup. A lot of fantastic teams, from Real Madrid to Arsenal, to Inter Milan, have passed through there and played that cup with Benfica; I think it's the tenth edition.

"We are pleased to be playing with Benfica in the international break and to give our players that international experience because we want them to get used to it", Caixinha continued.

"I think it's important for us to be back on this track, to have this experience.

"Next season we hope to do it differently in Europe and this experience helps us of course in that direction as well."

The Eusebio Cup will not be played in Portugal this year, with the clash due to take place in Hamilton, Canada on 6th October.

Benfica have only played the Eusebio Cup outside Portugal once before, with the 2015 edition held in Mexico against Monterray, a match the Portuguese giants lost 3-0.
