Barcelona CEO Oscar Grau admits that a fresh move for Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho may happen in the January transfer window, but stressed the Catalan giants must be prepared to balance out arrivals with departures.

Coutinho wanted to move to the Camp Nou in the summer and Barcelona lodged multiple bids with Liverpool in an attempt to do the deal.

But the Reds stood firm and insisted Coutinho must stay, ultimately knocking back Barcelona's final offer for the Brazilian, which came in at around the £119m mark.

The Catalans could be back in January however and Grau says the club stand ready to chase players the coaching team want.

But he admits there must be departures to balance out any arrivals in the new year.

"We are ready for buying Coutinho in the winter market or any player the technical staff requests", Grau was quoted as saying by beIN Sports.

"But it is important to adjust ourselves, so if there have to be arrivals there must be exits as well."

If Barcelona did succeed in signing Coutinho in the new year then he would be cup-tied for the Champions League.

It has been suggested however that Barcelona view him as potentially influential in the battle for La Liga and as such his unavailability for Europe would not put them off.
