Further evidence of Monaco planning for life without Southampton target Guido Carrillo has surfaced as the Ligue 1 giants are keen on Leicester City striker Islam Slimani, but a deal looks unlikely at the moment.

The 29-year-old striker has not been a regular at Leicester this season and has been tipped to leave the Foxes in the January transfer window.

Currently behind Jamie Vardy in the pecking order, Slimani is itching to play regular football and could listen to offers to leave Leicester before the end of the month.

And according to French sports daily L’Equipe, the Algerian has emerged as a possible target for Monaco, who are looking for a replacement for Southampton bound Carrillo.

The Argentine is expected to join the Saints after they reached an agreement over a fee with Monaco on Thursday and the Ligue 1 club are now seeking a replacement.

Slimani is a possible target for Monaco but the club are currently looking to sign him on loan, an idea which is expected to be rebuffed by Leicester.

Leicester are only interested in selling the striker and are asking for a price around the €20m mark.

Monaco are unlikely to show any concrete interest in the striker for the moment as they do not want to invest big money in a player who will turn 30 in the summer.
