Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has defended skipper Hugo Lloris amidst recent criticism, insisting that the French international is one of the best in the world at present.

The 31-year-old was guilty of conceding a penalty which Ilkay Gundogan converted as his side succumbed to a 3-1 loss at the hands of Manchester City on Saturday.

It was in fact not a one-off incident, with the player coming under the microscope for his performances against both Stoke City and Chelsea, conceding a goal in each.

Pochettino however insists that he has no concerns about the form of player and he is hardly concerned about what is written on social media or the press.

The Argentine manager also took time to classify Lloris as one of the best in the world, who has kept alive his desire to improve from the very first day he arrived.

"Look I am a very lucky person because I am not focused on social media and all that happens around", the manager said at a press conference.

"And my only focus is to try to assess and to provide the players with better tools to perform. For me Hugo Lloris is, from the day that we arrive here, improving every season.

"For me today he is one of the best keepers in the world and for me there’s no doubt.

"But you know the perception sometimes…you need to respect the people’s perception. I don’t know, because I don’t read.

"But for me Hugo Lloris is doing fantastic, for me he is one of the best keepers in the world and for me there is no doubt about him."
