Stefano Bonacini, the president of Italian Serie B club Carpi, has insisted that striker Jerry Mbakogu deserves the chance to show what he can do with Leeds United.

The English Championship side have an option in place to sign Mbakogu from Carpi, claimed to be around the £3m mark, but have not yet activated it.

As such, question marks have been raised over whether Leeds will move to take the Carpi hitman to Elland Road, or instead look at other striking targets first.

Now Carpi supremo Bonacini has weighed in and says that his striker fully deserves the opportunity to move to Leeds, with the Championship a bigger stage than Serie B.

He said on RMC Live: "Mbakogu should go to Leeds.

"He deserves a chance on an important stage – the second tier in England is not the Italian Serie B.

"He is ready to have an adventure in England."

All eyes are on whether Leeds do choose to activate their signing option on Mbakogu and take him to England.

Mbakogu has struggled to consistently hit the back of the net for Carpi this season, managing just six goals in 25 Serie B appearances.

His campaign has been interrupted by injury however and he will bid to sign off on a high this weekend when Carpi take on Bari in an away league fixture.
