Leeds United talent Jamie Shackleton has admitted that it was different when he was asked to play at right-back for the first time, but insists he is enjoying it so far this season.

Shackleton, who was promoted to the first team by Marcelo Bielsa in the summer, has yet to start a game for Leeds in his natural position.

The 19-year-old has been deployed at right-back more often than not and played in that position during the last two Championship games, against Queens Park Rangers and Bolton Wanderers, respectively.

Despite being a central midfielder by trade, Shackleton has managed to give a good account of himself while stepping in for the injured Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas.

Shackleton admitted that it was quite different when he was asked to play in the role for the first time in pre-season, but insisted he is enjoying the new role so far this term.

“Different really”, Shackleton told LUTV, when he was asked about how he feels about the change in position.

“Before this pre-season I had never played at right-back.

“But I’ve been put there and it is obviously somewhere that the manager thought I was capable of putting in a performance.

“I’ve enjoyed it.”

Shackleton has made 11 appearances for Leeds across all competitions so far this season.
