Rangers legend Ally McCoist has urged Steven Gerrard to play two up front against Celtic next weekend.

The Gers came from behind to register a 2-1 win away at McDiarmid Park on Sunday afternoon, with Gerrard introducing Kyle Lafferty from the bench in the 56th minute to play with Alfredo Morelos.

Morelos scored both Rangers' goals and the Gers are now sitting just a single point behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership standings.

Though both teams are in action on Boxing Day before they collide at Ibrox, McCoist has already offered advice for the Old Firm fixture.

And the Rangers legend feels that two up top is the way to go to really get at Brendan Rodgers' men.

McCoist said on BT Sport after the game: "I probably would [go two up top against Celtic] because you look at teams who have had success [against them].

"I know Rangers did it early on in their first game against Celtic and it didn't work at Celtic Park, but it's another opportunity and they have to go for Celtic."

Rangers play host to Hibernian on Boxing Day and Gerrard will want his men to make no mistake against Neil Lennon's side, with whom his team played out a 0-0 draw at Easter Road last week.
