Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield insists that the Gers are hungry to be at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, and will push harder in the second half of the season.

Steven Gerrard’s side finished 2018 with a morale-boosting win against arch-rivals Celtic, and are level on points with the Hoops heading into the winter break.

Rangers have had their ups and downs this season, but Celtic have not been able to take advantage, which has blown the title race wide open.

Arfield played the full game against Celtic and has been a key cog in Gerrard’s side this season, having scored five goals in 15 appearances for the Gers so far.

The 30-year old admitted that Rangers want to be at the top of the league table and despite an inconsistent season, they have a chance to lift the title.

“We always want to be there, that is what this club is built on. We want to be at the top of this league”, Arfield was quoted as saying by the Evening Times.

“It is one game, it has got us back on track.

"We have had a number of bad results throughout the season but we have given ourselves a good chance.

“We rest up now, we go again and go harder than we have for this six months in the last five.”

Rangers’ next league game comes in late January and they will face Kilmarnock, who have themselves been impressive this season.
