The Dutchman sealed a remarkable transfer in the summer of 2018, swapping Eredivisie outfit PEC Zwolle for Premier League giants Manchester City.
However, Sandler’s time in England has not gone according to plan so far, with recurring injuries marring his development and hopes of earning his way into Pep Guardiola’s team.
The centre-back missed the first part of his debut season at Manchester City due to a knee injury, which returned during his loan spell at Anderlecht last term, before then suffering another setback ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
However, Sandler, who has made only two senior appearances for the club so far, has insisted that he has no regrets over his decision to join Manchester City, stressing the importance of the experience he gained during his first season with the side.
“I have zero per cent regrets over my choice and I would not have done it any other way“, Sandler told Dutch television broadcaster NOS.
“If you know what I’ve learned, especially in the second half of the first season, I could never have experienced that anywhere else.“
Though he only has less than 18 months left on his contract with Manchester City, Sandler asserted that he is currently focused on regaining full fitness than his future.
“First get fit and play matches“, the Dutchman said.
“Then it is also a bit easier for myself to determine what I want.
“I still have some time and I am at least not thinking about it [the future] now.
“The focus is on recovery, then the rest will follow automatically.“
Sandler recently returned to training with Manchester City’s second string and will be hopeful of getting some playing time with the Under-23s under his belt before the end of the season.
