A return to Old Trafford has been rumoured for several years, but the Portuguese has never come close to moving back to Manchester United since leaving 2009.

But there are suggestions that the forward could be back for one last hurrah at Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United have reportedly been following his situation at Juventus closely and, according to Spanish daily AS, they have already expressed their interest to the player and his agent Jorge Mendes.

It has been claimed that Solskjaer has himself gone to work to bring his former team-mate back to Old Trafford this summer.

The Manchester United manager has spoken to Ronaldo and explained the project he has been building at Old Trafford.

And Ronaldo himself is prepared to return to his former club and is now open to the idea of rejoining Manchester United.

But a decision on his future can only be taken at the end of the season as it could still hinge on Juventus qualifying for the Champions League.

If the Italian giants sneak back into the Serie A top four on Sunday there is a chance that the Portuguese could stay.

But he is almost certain to leave if Juventus are involved in the Europa League next season.

Ronaldo won three league titles and a Champions League amongst other honours during his first stint at Manchester United.
