Rudiger is out of contract at the end of the season and would prefer to continue playing for Chelsea beyond next summer.

However, the negotiations between the club and player over a new deal have been feisty with talk of the defender feeling hurt at Chelsea’s tactics.

Rudiger wants to double his salary to around £200,000 a week but Chelsea are not prepared to offer more than £140,000 a week at the moment.

And it has been claimed that neither party is prepared to move from their given positions at the moment.

The 28-year-old defender has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League since Thomas Tuchel arrived in the middle of last season.

He was stellar in Chelsea’s Champions League success last season and wants his new deal to reflect his importance at Stamford Bridge.

But Chelsea believe they have made a fair offer and do not want to give in to the player’s demands.

It has been suggested that Rudiger is now resigned to leaving Chelsea at the end of the season and his agents are sounding out clubs across Europe.
