The Magpies are currently stuck in the relegation spots owing to tough start to their Premier League campaign, but have already started to reinforce their squad in the ongoing window to boost their chances of survival.

Newcastle are set to announce full-back Trippier as their first signing under the new ownership and boss Eddie Howe is keen on bringing in more fresh talent.

The Tyneside giants have conceded 42 goals so far this season, the joint worst record in the league and Howe is keen on further bolstering his backline.

And having roped in a right-back in Trippier, Newcastle will turn their focus to adding a new centre-back to their ranks before the winter window slams shut.

Lille centre-back Sven Botman is among the Magpies’ top targets but his club are not open to selling him at the moment.

But Newcastle have identified a number of alternative targets if they fail in their efforts to bring Botman to St James’ Park.

It has been claimed that Sevilla’s Diego Carlos is another centre-back Newcastle have identified as a potential recruit this month.
