Trippier was Newcastle’s first signing during the winter transfer window and he has quickly established himself as one of the first names on Eddie Howe’s team-sheet.
He was again brilliant in Newcastle’s win over Everton on Tuesday night and scored from a sumptuous free-kick as well to net his first goal for the club as well.
Given admitted that Trippier has turned out to be a massive signing for Newcastle in the winter window, especially as he left the Spanish champions to move into the relegation dogfight of the Premier League.
The former goalkeeper saw him at Manchester City where Trippier spent his early football career and is happy to see the career he has had moving forward.
The ex-Newcastle star praised the defender for the way he has settled quickly into life at Newcastle.
Given said on talkSPORT: “He has been a phenomenal signing if I am being honest.
“He just won the league last year at Atletico Madrid and then they signed him in a relegation dogfight.
“I was at Man City with Kieran Trippier a good few years ago when he was a kid and it’s just amazing to see the career he has gone on and the path he has gone on.
“And again that free-kick last night was typical of Kieran Trippier, he has done it for club and country.
“It is brilliant to see him settle in so quickly at the club.”
Newcastle will hope Trippier keeps his form going as they look to survive in the Premier League this season.
