The Magpies are looking to bring in a forward this summer but have been priced out of moves for several of their top targets.

They remain determined to add to their forward ranks and Ramos has emerged as a viable option for Newcastle before the end of the transfer window.

Benfica are prepared to sell him and Newcastle are now pressing ahead with their efforts to put him at the disposal of Eddie Howe.

PSG have also been linked with an interest in him, but the Magpies are not worried about competition from the French champions.

The Parisians are said to have held talks with Benfica over signing Ramos but for the moment, Newcastle are not concerned about them.

They lost one of their top targets in Hugo Ekitike to PSG earlier this summer but Newcastle believe the situation is vastly different now.

Ramos does not have the same emotional ties with PSG that the former Reims striker had.

Ekitike was sold on the idea of having a good chance of being a starting forward at PSG, but Ramos would face an uphill task to get into the team if he joins them.

Newcastle are preparing to table a formal bid for him and are said to be ready to offer €30m for the Benfica hitman.
