The Germany international joined Manchester City in the summer of 2016 for a fee worth £20m and has won four Premier League titles, while helping the Manchester outfit to reach their first Champions League final in 2021.
Gundogan’s contract with the Cityzens expires at the end of this season, and it is still unclear whether the Manchester City captain will stay beyond this season at the Etihad Stadium.
Liverpool are tipped to need to carry out big midfield surgery next summer and Gundogan is a player that is well known to Klopp, having played for him at Borussia Dortmund.
Gundogan admits that he has a lot of respect for Klopp, but emphasised that after being a Manchester City captain, it is impossible for him to move to their rivals Liverpool.
“I think I can rule out that happening”, Gundogan told German magazine Kicker.
“Everyone knows how much I like and appreciate Kloppo.
“But I’ve been at City for a few years now.
“And now as City captain to rival Liverpool?
“No, I can not imagine [it].”
Gundogan has featured in 20 games for Manchester City this season, scoring two goals while assisting twice, and it remains to be seen if Liverpool might offer him the chance to head to Anfield.
