Drameh has featured more for the Under-21s this season than the first team at Leeds but earned plaudits for his work against Cardiff City at the weekend.

Coming on and replacing Rasmus Kristensen when Leeds were 2-0 down in the FA Cup clash, the Whites ultimately ended up drawing 2-2 and earning a replay.

Newsome thinks Drameh outshone Kristensen in the clash against Cardiff, looking busy when he came on and showing quality.

The ex-Leeds defender believes that considering the Danish man is on much higher wages than Drameh, it would be a criminal sort of thing for the Whites to let the 21-year old leave.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds post-match, Newsome said: “On the showing of the second half when he came on, I thought he’s got plenty about him.

“Whether he is capable of playing in the Premier League, nobody knows the answer to that until you throw him in there but his performance was better than Kristensen’s.

“And we have paid a lot of money for Kristensen.

“He’s probably on four times as much money if not more.

“As a financial decision and a decision for the football club looking forward, it would be criminal to let him go.”

Drameh’s contract with Leeds ends in the summer of next year and it remains to be seen if he is offered a new one to extend his stay at Elland Road.
