Days of speculation regarding the future of the full-back came to an end as the summer signing moved out on his first spell away from the London-based club.

At the Ligue 1 club, Spence will get more opportunities to play first-team football than at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, particularly given the fact that they already have two of their senior full-backs out with injuries.

Maurice, while giving an insight into their attempt to sign the 22-year-old, revealed that Spence is a player with an interesting profile and comes with great potential.

“Following the injuries to Lorenz Assignon and Hamari Traore, we had to react very quickly. He is an interesting player profile”, Maurice told his club’s official website.

“He is a committed, fast player who is able to defend well and also attack well. He moved up to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest last season.

“He played little with Tottenham but he’s still a player with great potential.

“In a few hours, you had to be reactive to find the right option and I hope he will quickly blend into the group in order to show us his qualities”

At Rennes, Spence will join another Tottenham player in Joe Rodon, who is also on loan at the French club.
