Mousinho identified the goalkeeper position as a priority target in the summer and signed Will Norris early in the transfer window.

Josh Oluwayemi and Toby Steward, the young goalkeeper duo, are closing in on a loan move in the ongoing window, which will leave Norris as the only option for Mousinho.

Now Portsmouth are looking in the transfer market to provide Norris with an experienced backup goalkeeper in the upcoming season and they want to sign the player on a permanent transfer.

Mousinho revealed that Portsmouth are close to recruiting a second-choice goalkeeper and he is hoping that they will soon make progress in their hunt for Norris’ backup.

When asked about the backup goalkeeper hunt, Mousinho said on BBC Radio Solent: “Yes, hopefully, we are very close on that.

“So within the next couple of days, hopefully we should see something progressing on that angle.”

Portsmouth are set to begin their League One campaign against Bristol Rovers on 5th August and the Fratton Park outfit will be hoping to sign a backup goalkeeper before the game against the Gas’.
