Eddie Howe’s side made a great start to the season with a 5-1 win over Aston Villa at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

But the Newcastle boss has already admitted that he wants to sign at least one more player to provide more balance to his squad.

And it has been claimed that left-back is the area of the squad that he wants to strengthen with Tierney and Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella on his radar.

Newcastle are pushing to sign either of the two players on loan with an option or obligation to buy.

But if they want to sign Tierney, they could have to wait until closer to transfer deadline day.

Arsenal would prefer to sell the left-back this summer and bring in that money now rather than later.

However, the Gunners are also desperate to move on Tierney and could accept an initial loan towards the end of the window.

Newcastle have found it harder to deal with clubs who see them as a threat in the league since their takeover

But they are confident that a deal can be agreed upon for either Tierney or Cucurella given the respective clubs want to move them on.
