Batth is in the final year of his contract and has been left out of the Sunderland starting line-ups at the start of the season.
The Black Cats are prepared to move him on and the 32-year-old defender has attracted interest from clubs in the Championship.
Blackburn have been keeping tabs on him with a view to potentially signing in the ongoing window.
And it has been claimed that Blackburn have officially approached Sunderland to try and sign Batth.
They are hoping to speak with the player in the coming days and are prepared to offer him a two-year deal.
Sunderland could even be prepared to waive a fee in order to get Batth’s wages from their payroll.
The deal is now likely depending on the Blackburn owners giving their final approval to Batth joining the Ewood Park outfit.
The defender featured in Sunderland’s EFL Cup defeat at the start of the season but could be on his way out of the club soon.
