Leeds signed the defensive midfielder from Chelsea on a permanent deal and he has been a constant in the team since his arrival.

The Welshman has managed to forge a relationship with 17-year-old midfielder Archie Gray in the middle of the park and they have formed a solid partnership.

Newsome insisted that Ampadu is a much better player than the one he saw at Sheffield United a few years ago, with spells at Venezia and Spezia helping.

He indicated that his time in Italy has helped the midfielder to grow in confidence and stature and Leeds are taking advantage of that development this season.

The former White said on BBC Radio Leeds: “I have been really impressed with him.

“I saw him a couple of years ago when he was at Sheffield United and I thought he struggled.

“He went out to Italy and he has probably grown in stature and confidence and he has become a better player for that.

“And we are reaping the rewards.

“The relationship he has with Archie Gray is only going to grow and get better.”

Ampadu has started all of Leeds’ six league games thus far and is expected to be in the team against Hull on Wednesday night.
