Clement is the new man at the helm at Ibrox and he kicked off life as Rangers boss with a winning start against Hibernian at the weekend.

His predecessor, Michael Beale, lost the support of the majority of the Rangers fans long before he got sacked just before the international break.

Rangers fans grew tired of prosaic performances from their team and Dalziel insisted that Clement must form a relationship with the supporters as soon as possible in order to gain their backing.

He admitted that Rangers supporters have been watching poor football for a while and feels it is important that Clement’s side become a better team to watch for the fans soon.

Dalziel said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “I think it’s so important that he connects with the supporters.

“The supporters were leaving in droves with 20 minutes to go at Ibrox as they were not impressed.

“I remember one day under [Giovanni] van Bronckhorst, they were beating Dundee United and the place was empty because they were not impressed with the style of football.

“As much as results are important, we all know that as it’s all about winning, I think Rangers need a good brand of football.

“And hopefully for Rangers supporters, this guy will bring it to them.”

Following the win over Hibernian, Clement is now bidding to make a good European impression when his side face Sparta Prague on Thursday.
