The midfielder is prepared to leave Manchester City on loan after spending another half a season without getting much game time under Pep Guardiola.

The Spanish coach has made it clear that he does not see the former Leeds United star in his plans and Manchester City are open to letting him go in the winter window.

Newcastle United are interested in taking him to St. James’ Park but they are facing competition from Juventus, who have opened talks with Manchester City.

And according to Italian outlet TuttoJuve, Phillips has a preference for Juventus over Newcastle at the minute.

The midfielder is pushing for a move to Turin rather than a move within the Premier League to Newcastle.

Phillips wants to play regular football in order to safeguard his place in the England squad ahead of next summer’s European Championship.

However, a bone of contention remains as Manchester City are insisting on a mandatory purchase clause while Juventus are keen to sign him on loan with an option to buy.
