Celtic legend Pat Bonner has hailed Cameron Carter-Vickers for what he brings to the Bhoys side and admits that it could make the side weaker from set pieces if he is not available for the Rangers match.
Carter-Vickers was involved in Celtic’s 3-0 win over Dundee on Boxing Day, but had to be withdrawn in the second half due to a tight hamstring.
The win helped Rodgers’ side develop a five-point lead at the top though Philippe Clement’s Rangers have the upper hand as they have a two-game advantage and can topple their rivals with perfect performances in their next two games.
Bonner was impressed with what he saw from Carter-Vickers, insisting that the 25-year-old is not only good because of his qualities defensively but because of his qualities in starting an attack.
“Carter-Vickers is huge. Not just his defensive qualities but on the ball too. He can start attacks, he’s got pace and he’s strong”, Bonner said on BBC Sportsound.
However, Bonner believes that Celtic could be targeted by Rangers from set pieces if they do not have Carter-Vickers.
“Are they vulnerable from set-pieces? It’s something Rangers might capitalise on.
“So it will be interesting to see if he’s not going to make it, will it be Welsh or Nawrocki that come in?”
All eyes will be on what Celtic’s medical team make of Carter-Vickers’ injury ahead of the Rangers clash.
