Manchester City have their eyes on Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz, but a January move is not likely to happen, according to The Athletic.

The 20-year-old German midfielder is at the heart of a Leverkusen team who are sitting at the top of the Bundesliga standings and are undefeated in the league this season.

He has eight goals and 12 assists to his name in 23 games in all competitions and his performances have attracted the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

A move to the Premier League has been mooted and a number of teams have their eyes on him.

It has been claimed that Manchester City have been keeping close tabs on his performances in Germany.

They are keen on signing him but it has been suggested that a move in January is not a possibility at the moment.

Leverkusen have no interest in losing one of their best players in the middle of the season while they are chasing a title.

Wirtz has a contract until 2027 at Leverkusen and is not pushing for a move away from the club.

Manchester City are acutely aware that getting the attacking midfielder in January is off-limits.
