Fulham have turned down Napoli’s offer to take Serbian midfielder Sasa Lukic on loan for the remainder of the season.

Napoli’s new coach Walter Mazzarri is keen on strengthening his squad in January and has identified a number of areas, though he does not have a significant sum to spend.

Fulham midfielder Lukic is a player that Napoli identified and they made a move to try to land him.

The 27-year-old has been more of a bit part player for Marco Silva’s team this season, making appearances mostly from the bench.

And Napoli got in touch with Fulham to ask about taking Lukic on loan.

However, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the Cottagers have turned down their offer.

Napoli will now have to look elsewhere or potentially try to change Fulham’s mind in the coming weeks.

With the window having just opened, Napoli could hope Fulham change their stance towards the end of the transfer period.
