Ajax acting technical director Kelvin de Lang has claimed that West Ham United are yet to contact him for Steven Bergwijn and insisted that the Dutch champions want to keep their captain.

Bergwijn has emerged as the top West Ham target this month as David Moyes looks to add more depth to his attacking options to his squad.

The Dutchman has experience of playing in England previously with Tottenham and West Ham are looking to bring in someone who will not take much time to settle down in the Premier League.

However, De Lang admitted that while he read about the speculation, he has not received any calls from West Ham with regards to the Dutch winger.

The Ajax acting technical director told Dutch daily the Algemeen Dagblad: “I only read that online.

“They didn’t call me; I can promise you.”

He also added that Ajax do not want to lose Bergwijn as he can be a decisive presence in the team when he is playing well.

“Steven is an important player for us.

“We want to keep him, also because he can be very decisive for us when he is playing well.

“He is a player we want to continue with.”

Bergwijn has scored seven times in the Eredivisie in 13 league appearances this season.
