Barnsley are likely to hold on to loan star John McAtee beyond the end of the transfer window, according to the Barnsley Chronicle.

The 24-year-old attacker joined Barnsley on loan from Luton Town in the summer and is scheduled to spend the season at the League One club.

He has been a massive part of Neill Collins’ squad and has played a major role in helping them mount a challenge for promotion this season.

However, there are suggestions that Luton could recall the forward from his loan at Oakwell in the ongoing transfer window.

But it has been claimed that no such scenario is likely to take place this month despite the rumours.

McAtee is happy at Barnsley and is more than content to spend the rest of the season at the club.

He is not making any effort to cut short his loan and Luton are also set to keep him at Oakwell for the duration of the loan period.

The forward has nine goals in 22 appearances across all competitions for Barnsley this season.
