Sunderland cannot now recall goalkeeper Alex Bass with the deadline for doing so having passed, AFC Wimbledon have confirmed.

The shot-stopper made the move to AFC Wimbledon last summer, completing a loan switch from Sunderland.

The Black Cats though included a clause in the agreement which would have allowed them to recall Bass and end his AFC Wimbledon loan.

The deadline though has now passed, with AFC Wimbledon revealing Sunderland cannot now recall Bass and expressing their delight.

The League Two side wrote on X: “We’re delighted to say that the loan recall window has now passed meaning that Alex Bass will spend the rest of season with the Dons!”

Bass has become a key man at AFC Wimbledon this season.

The shot-stopper has turned out 26 times for the club in League Two and managed to keep nine clean sheets.

With his future now settled until the summer, Bass can knuckle down at AFC Wimbledon as the club push for promotion to League One.
