Sunderland have submitted a loan with an obligation to buy offer to Barnsley for the services of Callum Styles, according to Sky Sports News.

The Black Cats have yet to bring in players during the ongoing transfer window and they are desperate to strengthen their squad.

Striker is a priority for Michael Beale, but he also has other areas in his mind that he wants to improve.

Sunderland are in the market for a midfielder and Barnsley’s Styles is on their transfer wishlist.

Styles has experience playing in the Championship, as he played on loan for Millwall last season and featured 22 times.

It has been claimed that Sunderland have made a loan offer for the central midfielder, with a compulsory option to buy him in the summer.

Styles is a key player for Barnsley and has made 20 outings in the league this season with three goals and two assists to his name.

Barnsley have yet to agree a deal with Sunderland and it remains to be seen whether Styles will be Beale’s first Sunderland signing.
