Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Matt O’Riley will not be leaving the club in January despite interest from Atletico Madrid.
O’Riley has been a standout player for Celtic this season and his performances have piqued the interest of bigger clubs in Europe.
Atletico Madrid tabled a bid to sign him on loan with an obligatory purchase clause recently but Celtic were quick to knock back the offer.
The Bhoys do not want to lose a player of the midfielder’s importance in the middle of a season where they are involved in a tough title race with Rangers.
Rodgers reiterated the club’s stance and stressed that the player will not be leaving Celtic Park before next Thursday’s transfer deadline.
“Matt is a player we don’t want to lose”, the Celtic boss said in a press conference.
“And he won’t be going anywhere in January.”
O’Riley has been brilliant for Celtic this season, scoring ten times and laying on 12 assists in 29 appearances in all competitions.
He has a contract until 2027 and for the moment, the Bhoys are under no pressure to sell him.
