Championship promotion chasers Southampton are reluctant to allow Sheffield United target Sekou Mara to leave this month, according to The Athletic.

The 21-year-old currently finds himself down the pecking order at St Mary’s with most of his 16 Championship appearances coming from the bench.

Mara is keen on more game time though and clubs have been alerted to the situation.

Besides Premier League relegation battlers Sheffield United, Granada, Metz and Stuttgart are also keen on luring him away with the promise of regular first-team minutes.

However, Southampton are not keen on letting Mara leave in the coming couple of days.

Southampton are currently chasing promotion and manager Russell Martin does not want to take any risks at this juncture.

He is keen on having as many attacking options at his disposal as possible to aid Southampton’s promotion fight.

Martin has even added to his attacking options with the capture of David Brooks from Bournemouth.
