Cardiff City are set to face disappointment in their pursuit of Valerenga striker Andrej Ilic who is set to undergo a medical with Lille today, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Welsh side did all the running in the last week or so to secure a deal to sign the Serbian forward this winter.

Cardiff tabled a bid for him with Valerenga and Ilic was also said to be keen on the move to the Championship club.

However, the transfer saga turned upside down over the last 48 hours after Lille inserted themselves into the race.

And it has been claimed that a deal is now in place between Valerenga and Lille for Ilic to move to France.

The French side have offered an overall package of €4m to Valerenga to tempt them into selling the striker.

Lille also offered more favourable and quicker payment terms than Cardiff proposed for the attacker.

Ilic has been booked to undergo a medical today while Lille sort out the final details of the agreement with Valerenga.
