Norwich City look increasingly unlikely to be able to sign midfielder Jonathan Varane this month, according to the Pink Un.

David Wagner has been looking to boost his Canaries squad before the transfer window closes and Varane is a player of interest.

The 22-year-old midfielder is someone that Wagner would like at Carrow Road, but doing a deal with Sporting Gijon is proving tough.

Both clubs have differing valuations of Varane which look unlikely to be bridged late in the transfer window.

Varane, who is the half brother of Manchester United defender Raphael, came through the youth set-up at French club Lens.

The midfielder switched to Spanish football with Sporting Gijon in the summer of 2022.

Sporting Gijon currently sit in fifth spot in the Spanish second tier and are hunting promotion to La Liga.

It appears that Sporting Gijon will be able to continue to count on Varane, with a move to Norwich currently off the agenda.
