Sunderland are pressing forward with their efforts to sign Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles on deadline day, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Styles has been on Sunderland’s radar for a while but progress in talks over a deal between the two clubs have been slow.

Sunderland remain insistent on wanting to sign the midfielder before the transfer window closes tonight.

They are continuing to press forward in negotiations to get a deal over the line to sign Styles today.

The talks are still ongoing but Barnsley are expected to sanction the midfielder’s sale in the coming hours.

Sunderland are hoping to work out the terms of an agreement with Barnsley for the transfer later today.

The Black Cats are also preparing to thrash out personal terms and put Styles through a medical soon.

They remain confident of wrapping up the deal and getting all the paperwork sorted before tonight’s deadline.

A midfielder by trade, Styles can also play full-back and suits Michael Beale’s plans for Sunderland.
